Zimbabwe (Commonwealth Union)_ Jobst von Kirchmann, the ambassador of the European Union to Zimbabwe, formally inaugurated a campaign in Zimbabwe aimed at fostering constructive relationships based on mutual interests between the nation and the Union. The campaign centers on two common goals in the fields of environmentally friendly and climate-smart agriculture practices, as well as gender equality and the empowerment of women.

The 2022 campaign includes five African nations, namely Cameroon, Nigeria, the Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. According to the EU ambassador, ‘Zimbabwe and the European Union, together, tomorrow, today’ is the slogan of the campaign launched by the EU in Zimbabwe. As part of this campaign, the European Union wishes to reaffirm its ambition and commitment to a constructive partnership with Zimbabwe based on areas of mutual interest.

Ambassador Kirchmann added that this initiative is an effort of the EU-Africa Campaign, which aims to highlight the beneficial effects of the unique relationship between Africa and the European Union. According to him, the long-term relationship between the two continents and the existing connections have opened doors for a great deal of productive collaboration.

Monica Mutsvangwa, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, expressed appreciation for the effort, citing it as proof that ties between the bloc and Zimbabwe were strengthening. “Such a noble initiative is a clear testimony of the continuous and sustainable improvement of relations between Zimbabwe and the EU,” the Minister said. “Indeed, we are excited to see Zimbabwe and the EU making strides in ensuring that positive relations are restored back to normalcy through diplomacy, dialogue and initiatives of common interest to support our communities.”

According to the European Union, the purpose of the campaign is to highlight the beneficial effects that have resulted from the unique relationship between Africa and the European Union. Jah Prayzah and Ammara Brown, two renowned music artists, are also members of the team promoting collaboration between the European Union and Zimbabwe via the Greener and Climate-smart Agriculture and Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment campaigns.
