INDIA (Commonwealth Union) – Diwali is a time in India where everything is a party. People come out on the streets and there is food, drinks and laughter. Worries are forgotten and problems put on hold for another day. However, it is not always a party as there are a few people who will undoubtedly misbehave and the fun has to end for everybody. This is exactly what happened in New Delhi during the Diwali festival time.

There have always been issues of women getting harassed all over the world and India also has its fair share of problems. Now it just so happened that the students who belong to the all – women Miranda house had decided to let their hair loose this Diwali and join in on the celebrations. Unfortunately, that didn’t last long as a little into their celebrations the men in and around the area began the usual cat calls and other forms of harassment which cut the good times the ladies were having as they had to return back to their living quarters.

Now one can understand is this happened when the ladies had been on the street but that was not the case. The campus had taken it up on themselves to organize festivities inside the campus for the safety and the wellbeing of their students. It was the men that had climbed walls and made dirty remarks at the students. The students tried to ignore this bad behaviour of the men but it became unbearable to the point that the police were called and the celebrations called off. The police have been on an active look out for the men who have sort of been identified by the students as they are men from in and around the area.
