Air India Express heals

The Tata Group-owned airline, which daily operates around 380 services, recently canceled around 20 flights. Air India Express is gradually restoring its flights and stabilizing services, and all cabin crew members who were on sick leave joined duty on the 11th of May 2024.

However, because of the hitch in the company’s scheduling software, it was continuously showing that staff were on sick leave. A strike that was conducted by the cabin crew members against the airline’s alleged mismanagement forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights since last week. However, a few days back the strike was called off following a conciliation meeting convened by the chief labor commissioner in Delhi. The carrier also withdrew termination letters which were issued to 25 cabin crew members following the strike. The meeting was attended by representatives of the airline and the Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU).

After the meeting, the Air India Express mentioned that they were highly pleased with the progress they made at the conciliation meeting and welcomed their cabin crew colleagues back at work. This will help them to quickly restore their flight which was scheduled and fulfill their commitments to their guests. They sincerely apologize to those inconvenienced by these unintended disruptions and will gradually bring their operations back to normal. They also asked their guests who booked their flight, to check their flight status before coming to the airport.

Last month, Vistara, a joint venture of Tata Sons Private Limited and Singapore Airlines, canceled its flight services because of the crew’s unavailability. Since pilots were reported sick, it was forced to scale down operations. Weekly Air India Express operates more than 2,500 flights across 31 domestic and 14 international airports. Air India has a fleet of more than 70 aircraft comprising Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s.
