Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_ Two of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars, Vijay and Ajith Kumar, recently shared the spotlight at Silverstone in the United Kingdom. But this was not a film event. It was a meeting between two actors who have taken very different roads beyond cinema, while continuing to show mutual respect for each other. Vijay, now Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, was invited to wave the ceremonial green flag at the Michelin Le Mans Cup race. Ajith, meanwhile, was one of the competitors on the track, racing for Ajith RedAnt by Virage in the LMP3 Pro/Am category.

The moment was significant because it brought together two stars who have been colleagues in the Tamil film industry for more than three decades. Vijay attended the event to support Indian drivers in the sport and also to understand what it would take to bring major international motorsport events to Tamil Nadu. Before the race, Ajith expressed his gratitude to Vijay for making time to visit Silverstone despite his responsibilities as Chief Minister. He also spoke about his hope that events of this scale could eventually be hosted in Chennai and other parts of India.

Ajith’s passion for motorsport has been well known for years. His participation at Silverstone is another example of how seriously he has pursued racing alongside his film career. He shared the No. 16 Ligier with French driver Romain Vozniak during the event. Vijay, on the other hand, has entered an entirely different arena. After building a massive following as one of Tamil cinema’s leading actors, he has moved into politics and now holds the state’s top elected office. His presence at Silverstone showed how his public role is expanding beyond the film industry.

The meeting between the two stars carried an importance beyond the race itself. After the event, Vijay gifted Ajith a miniature race car and signed it with a personal message: “Priyamudan (With Love) Vijay to my lovely brother Ajith.” Ajith accepted the gift warmly and later presented Vijay with a helmet. Their exchange offered a simple message at a time when fan rivalries often dominate conversations around Tamil cinema: competition on screen does not have to mean hostility in real life. Ajith’s team eventually finished 38th overall. Yet the result was only one part of the story.
The bigger picture was the sight of two major Tamil stars succeeding in very different careers while publicly supporting one another. The Silverstone event also attracted other familiar faces from the Tamil film and political worlds. Actor Trisha Krishnan was present at the circuit, while veteran actor Radhika Sarathkumar was in London to support Ajith. TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna was also seen at the event. At Silverstone, Vijay represented politics and public leadership, while Ajith represented motorsport. Their meeting showed that careers may change, but respect and friendship can remain.
