-

UK (Commonwealth) _Aldi will invest more than £550 million in extending its shop and delivery network in 2024, with plans to establish new stores and upgrade current ones. New shops slated to open in 2024 will create around 1,500 new employment, in addition to existing job opportunities in its stores, Regional Distribution Centres, and UK headquarters.

Aldi presently operates over 1,000 shops in the UK and is committed to meeting demand with a long-term objective of 1,500. Giles Hurley, CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland, stated that they will keep continuing to welcome new consumers, who come for our cheap pricing but remain for our award-winning quality and British sourcing.

However, there are still sections of the nation without an Aldi or that require additional or larger stores to fulfill demand. That is what our 2024 growth plans seek to solve. We already have over 1,000 Aldi shops across the UK, with many more planned for 2024 and beyond.

Aldi just become the first retailer to promise store and warehouse staff at least £12 per hour after revealing new pay rates that will take effect on February 1, 2024. The new minimum rate makes Aldi the first store to provide rates in line with the Real Living Wage, which was established by the Living Wage Foundation in October of last year.
Store Assistants’ pay will raise to £12.95 nationwide and £13.85 within the M25, depending on length of service, as part of Aldi’s £67 million investment in colleague pay. Aldi is also the only supermarket in the UK to provide paid breaks.

Aldi is the brand name of two German family-owned inexpensive grocery businesses with over 12,000 outlets in 18 countries.Karl and Theo Albrecht launched the brand in 1946, taking over their mother’s store in Essen. In 1960, the firm was divided into two groups: Aldi Nord (based in Essen) and Aldi Süd (located in Mülheim).

They first used the name Aldi in 1962. Although Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd’s identities may look as though they were a single company with specific shop labels or when dealing with contractor firms, Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have been legally and financially independent in Germany since 1966. Aldi Süd is officially known as ALDI SÜD Dienstleistungs-SE & Co., while Aldi Nord is officially known as Aldi Einkauf GmbH & Co. Even though each business is owned and run separately, they do contractual business together.

The 32 regional businesses of Aldi Süd, which have 2,000 shops in western and southern Germany, and the 35 unique regional companies of Aldi Nord, which have around 2,200 stores in western, northern, and eastern Germany, make up Aldi’s German operations.  Internationally, Aldi Süd is present in Australia, Austria, China, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States; Aldi Nord is present in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, and Spain. Aldi has Hofer-branded shops in Slovenia and Austria. Additionally, Aldi Nord owns the American Trader Joe’s grocery chain, which runs independently of the company. The purchase of 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys stores in the southern United States was announced by Aldi Süd in August 2023.
