To make sure that the new rules are rigorously adhered to, officials from the Delhi Traffic Police and Delhi Transport Department will be stationed on the roadways, enforcing stiff penalties against bus and commercial vehicle drivers who violate the laws. In the case of violations of lane driving standards, a zero-tolerance approach will be implemented.

With the new restrictions taking effect on Delhi roads from April 1, other road users will be able to travel securely as well. The new regulation is being implemented in phases, beginning with 15 important roadways designated in the first phase. From 8 am to 10 pm, teams of traffic police and transportation officials will be stationed at these locations to guarantee that all regulations are followed.

Drivers who violate these lane driving guidelines will face penalties under the Motor Act and the Delhi Parking Lot Act. According to the law, any motorist who is found to be in violation of this rule may face a penalty of up to INR 10,000. Apart from this, there is also a provision for license suspension and a six-month prison sentence.

Delhi’s Transport Department has identified 46 routes suitable for lane driving. Their combined length exceeds 475 kilometers. According to the report, as part of the initiative, the Traffic and Transportation Department authorities will clear the intrusions from roadways designated for the corridor between April 1 and April 15. Simultaneously, in the second phase, from April 16 to April 30, lane driving regulations for the outer ring road’s 75-kilometer stretch and other fixed routes will be imposed.
