Africa (Commonwealth Union) _ The All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria, is set to make a tremendous political overhaul in Enugu State as its Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, is strongly convinced that the party will win the state in the 2027 general election.
Speaking at a high-profile defection ceremony in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area on Monday, Chief Nnaji formally welcomed over 500 new members who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and the All-Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the APC. Chief Nnaji described the mass defection as an open political realignment and a sign of growing dissatisfaction with the current state government.
Nnaji bitterly blamed the Governor Peter Mbah administration for its indiscriminate and inhumane demolition of markets across the state, calling the exercise economically debilitating and deadly to many traders whose source of living was lost in a sudden way. He expressed regret over the collapse of prime business hubs such as Ogige Nsukka Market, Holy Ghost Market, Garki, and Abakpa, describing the situation as economically debilitating and deadly for some traders who suddenly lost their source of livelihood.
“How is it possible for a government to knock down markets without prior notice or compensation?” Nnaji asked. “Ogige Nsukka was demolished in one night. The same thing is done in Enugu and other places. Our people are mostly traders how are they going to survive?”
He further praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, a native of Igbo-Eze North, as Chief of Naval Staff, highlighting it as a sign of federal recognition for the region. “President Tinubu knows we’re here, and we’re solidly behind him 100% ,” Nnaji declared, affirming the state’s loyalty to the ruling party.
In the 2027 elections, Nnaji assured supporters that the APC is fully prepared to legally challenge and unseat the PDP government. “We’re going to fight with every legal tool at our disposal to restore prosperity and pride to our people,” he promised.
APC State Chairman Ugochukwu Agballah echoed the same line of thought, terming the new membership drive a “rainbow movement” and criticized LP for running a “one-man show,” which he claimed led to their alleged rigging out in the last election.
