One such tea auction which was held by Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) in Assam grabbed the attention by auctioning a special variety of Assam tea at a record price of INR 75,000.

Highest bid

GTAC has set a new record recently by selling a special variety of Assam tea for a record price of INR 75,000 per kg, in spite of the ongoing pandemic situation. This has been recorded as the highest bid in 2020. This special variety known as Manohari Gold Specialty Tea was purchased by the city-based trader Vishnu Tea Company, who is well known in the e-commerce platform. This company has planned to export this brand across the globe.

Dinesh Bihani, secretary, Guwahati Tea Auction Buyer’s Association (GTABA), said that the tea was sold by Guwahati Tea Auction Buyer’s Association (GTABA), after one-year gap. He added “This is a great achievement amidst the global pandemic when the entire world is affected. Manohari Tea Estate has made extra effort to produce this specialty tea in the month of September and sent it to GTAC for sale, (sic)”.

The report from PTI states that a record was made by the same tea garden last year by selling the same variety of tea at a record price of INR 50,000 per kg. But, this year, Manohari Gold Specialty Tea broke its own record by selling it for INR 75,000 per kg.

The tea lovers and tea business people across the globe are keenly looking out for new brands coming up in the market. Hope this special variety of Assam tea gets more attention.
