The biggest solar farm to receive official approval yesterday was one of the two projects proposed by the Bangladesh-China Renewable Energy Company Pvt Ltd, which is a collaboration between two countries’ state-runned organizations. The joint venture was formed in September 2020 to build 500 megawatts of solar power in Bangladesh, with Chinese investment in the project and Bangladesh providing land.

The BPDB has agreed to pay $0.102 per kWh for a 68-megawatt solar project proposed by the JV in Sirajganj district, in the country’s northwestern region, and $0.106 for a 60-megawatt solar farm now under construction in Pabna district. The engineering, procurement, and construction services contracts for both projects have previously been advertised for bids by Bangladesh-China Renewable.
