Bengaluru, India (CU)_ The incorporation of the Bengaluru Railway Division into the Prime Minister’s GatiShakti Master Plan, which was introduced about six months ago, will expedite the completion and coordination of all railway projects in Bengaluru city. In the initial stage, only four out of the total 67 railway divisions in the nation have been chosen.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the Railway Board in New Delhi, with Delhi, Khurda, and Bilaspur selected as the other divisions. An order was issued in this respect recently. Aneesh Hegde, Chief Public Relations Officer of South Western Railway, explained the project. He said, “The unit in Bengaluru will be constituted shortly. The objective is to give an impetus to speedy completion of infrastructure and other projects with smooth coordination across various departments within Railways as well as that of the state governments”.

As a result of this action, the Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager is now accountable for the completion of projects that come under his responsibility. Hegde said, “Every project will have a project manager who reports on the progress of the work to the DRM”. The policy is intended to enable divisional decision-making. Currently, the construction division in Bengaluru is responsible for important division-related projects, although they do not fall within the division’s scope and report directly to the South Western Railway Zone.
A digital dashboard for Gatishakti has been developed. It would contain information on every project and receive regular updates from each department involved in the project, including the Center, State, Water Supply, Forestry, National Highways, and others.

According to the CPRO, “The PMO, Railway Ministry, General Manager of each Zone as well as Divisional Railway Managers will have access to the portal and constant monitoring will be done”. He stated that each ministry would be assigned a unique user identifier (login id) for frequent data updates. Hegde said, “The intervention of head office used to be high earlier but now it has been delegated at the divisional level”.
