Better Than some other Books – Part 1

In this space, we do not condone preference of movies over the book versions. The books are always better and that is my biased opinion, however, sometimes, very very rarely, I can admit to certain movies totally living up to the hype and story of the book they are adapted from. Here’s my top three picks of movies that were better than the books.

The Devil Wears Prada

Lauren Weisberger’s novel The Devil Wears Prada is a fun read, but the movie takes it to a whole new level. The characters are more fleshed out, the fashion is more glamorous, and Meryl Streep’s performance as Miranda Priestly is iconic. The movie also adds a bit more heart to the story, making it more than just a shallow tale of a young woman working in the cut-throat world of fashion.

The Girl on the Train

Paula Hawkins’ novel The Girl on the Train is a gripping thriller, but the movie adaptation takes it to another level. Emily Blunt’s performance as Rachel Watson is heartbreaking and raw, and the movie adds some new twists and turns that keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The cinematography is also stunning, with the use of dark and moody lighting adding to the suspense of the story.

Crazy Rich Asians

Kevin Kwan’s novel Crazy Rich Asians is a delightful romp, but the movie version is even more enjoyable. The movie expands on the relationships between the characters, making them feel more fleshed out and realistic. The visuals are also stunning, with the movie showcasing the opulence and beauty of Singapore in a way that the book can’t quite capture. Plus, the movie has a killer soundtrack that will have you dancing in your seat.

These are just a few examples of movies that were better than their book versions. Sometimes, a movie can take a story to new heights, adding depth, emotion, and stunning visuals that the book can’t quite match. So next time you’re debating whether to read the book or watch the movie, remember that the movie might just surprise you and be even better than the book (only sometimes though).
