Big Six banks join former BoC governor in net-zero alliance

 HSBC and Vancity from Canada to sign on the Alliance, and now with a couple of weeks until the UN climate summit, the Big Six banks also announced plans to join the initiative, chaired by Carney, who is also the former governor of the Bank of Canada. Accordingly, the Royal Bank of Canada, Bank of Montreal, National Bank of Canada, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Bank of Nova Scotia and TD Bank will pledge to join the global net-zero target, and to take a “robust approach” to carbon offsets.

Following the announcement on Friday (15 October), Carney issued a statement applauding the decision, noting that by joining the GFANZ, Canadian banks are “bringing their deep expertise and strong balance sheets to drive solutions for the sustainable economy”.
