Big Six banks join former BoC governor in net-zero alliance

 criticism, with nearly a hundred environment lobby groups criticising the association of not going far enough, as they called on the former BoC governor to be more ambitious with membership requirements.

“While we applaud your role in establishing frameworks to help green the financial system, too many signatory banks and other financial institutions are using GFANZ and ‘Net Zero’ promises as greenwash, empty promises without meaningful actions or clear accountability,” read the ad which was published earlier this month. They went on to state that they intended to see a goal of halving financed emissions by 2030, particularly though more immediate targets to phase out fossil fuel funding and a prohibition on financing any new fossil fuel projects.
