Karachi, Pakistan (CU)_ A remote-controlled bomb blasted in Karachi city of Pakistani on Monday. According to police, one paramilitary soldier was killed in the blast and eight others were badly injured. Suhai Aziz, senior police officer, informed that the device was operated using a remote control. He said, “(The) initial investigation suggests an explosive-rigged motorcycle was used in the blast”.

According to police officers of Karachi, the bomb that was placed close to a security services vehicle exploded and injured six others who were present in that area. In a statement issued to the media, separatist rebels from the Baloch Liberation Army – BLA assumed responsibility for the explosion. In the southwestern province of Balochistan, the rebellion group has been fighting against the government, targeting security forces, infrastructure, and mineral mining projects that the insurgents say exploit the area at the expense of locals.

The BLA was also responsible for a previous attack on the Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi in June 2020. In the attack, two guards were killed by four insurgents who were armed with guns and explosives. These four militants were killed by a police officer even before security forces could plunge into action.

Three BLA rebels stormed the city’s Chinese consulate in 2018, and killed four people before being assassinated. The BLA group had connections with the Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army in the past, which is another separatist rebel based in Sindh province. In June 2020, four people were killed in bomb blast, including two soldiers, and 30 people were wounded at a protest against Indian rule of Kashmir in August the same year.
