Bollywood’s Grand Vision for Ramayana: A Cinematic Marvel

Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_ Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has shared his excitement about portraying the revered character of Lord Ram in the upcoming two-part film adaptation of the Ramayana. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the project aims to bring India’s ancient epic to life on the big screen. Set for release during the Diwali festivals of 2026 and 2027, the film promises to deliver a fresh retelling of one of the most significant narratives in Indian culture. India reveres The Ramayana, one of its most cherished texts, for its teachings on duty, virtue, and justice. Kapoor’s involvement in the film marks a significant moment in his career, as he steps into a role that connects deeply with Indian mythology.

Speaking at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, Ranbir Kapoor expressed his deep honor and enthusiasm for the role. He said, “Just to be a part of that story, I am so humbled to essay Ram’s role. It’s a dream for me”. The actor described the film as a profound opportunity to explore values central to Indian culture, such as family dynamics and the husband-wife relationship. Kapoor further emphasized the film’s global appeal, noting its scale and visionary storytelling, which he believes will captivate audiences worldwide. Reports suggest that Ranbir, who has not yet confirmed the official cast, will play Lord Ram, and actress Sai Pallavi will likely play Sita. Yash, known for his role in the KGF series, has been rumored to play the formidable character of Ravana.

Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios is producing the adaptation, a live-action film that will use cutting-edge technology to bring the Ramayana to life. Kapoor, having completed filming the first part of the project, is preparing to start work on the second installment shortly. “It’s India’s greatest story, and to tell it to a new generation with the technology we have is a very exciting and gratifying opportunity for me as an actor, especially to play the part of Lord Ram,” Kapoor stated during a media interview.

In addition to Ramayana, Ranbir Kapoor is also preparing for several other major projects. He will star in Animal Park, a sequel to his 2023 hit Animal, and is also expected to return for Brahmastra: Part Two, Dev. Additionally, Kapoor’s collaboration with renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Love & War alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal further signals his ongoing prominence in Indian cinema. Furthermore, the ambitious Ramayana adaptation not only marks a significant milestone in Kapoor’s career but also serves as an international celebration of Indian culture, poised to introduce this timeless epic to a wider audience.
