Broadcom Software and Google Cloud: Where does software go from here?

(Commonwealth Union)_Companies are attempting to pivot their business models through digital transformation in a hyper-competitive market where start-ups are challenging established corporations. Broadcom, which is facing some of the same difficulties, should be aware that R&D spending has outpaced sales by over 50%. That reveals a lot about how they conduct business and the significance they place on innovation.

Broadcom was not founded as a software company; it began in the early 1960s as HP’s processor branch; nonetheless, they entered the software market when they purchased CA Technologies and the Symantec Enterprise business. They were not modern cloud-based software companies, and their portfolios included traditional on-premises software, cloud services, and some cloud-native offerings.

One of the most difficult problems for Broadcom was standardising the platforms and procedures of acquired software companies, therefore Broadcom Software collaborated closely with Google Cloud on this transformation journey, which led to modernise and restructure their own enterprise software. Broadcom needed to standardise and consolidate all of the software into a single, cloud-native platform so that it could scale, be resilient, and safe for clients.

They brought all of software platforms onto a single SaaS platform through the Google Cloud journey. One of the reasons customers desire SaaS applications is that they want to see more innovation. If you use a traditional on-premises programme, you must perform upgrades and reinstalls, which can take years to accomplish.

As a software supplier, Broadcom must offer those SaaS products in that market, as well as the new features that go with them, in a timely DevOps manner. Going to the cloud and modernising (these systems) enables developers to deliver all of this in order to help customers modernize their organisations.

Broadcom worked to provide each of the software divisions with a single pane of glass to better manage the business and track what was going on, from sales movement to customer adoption to R&D spend. They also centralised software operations so that engineers could focus on providing solutions that solved large, difficult challenges for the clients – liberating them to focus on outstanding ideas and better customer experiences.

Sahana Sarma, Managing Director at Google Cloud, noted that as the cloud computing service customers modify their software, they get to add more modern practises into their technological stack, such as containerization. So, having a more modern software stack allows you to readily incorporate newer technology, which introduces advances. Furthermore, by developing, implementing, and supporting Open-Source technology, Google Cloud preserves cloud neutrality and helps protect investments.
