Business leaders call for a post-Covid economic roadmap

-

Business leaders are turning to the government to help them come up with a roadmap plan to how they come out of this lock down and help with post Covid recovery for their business. There was a letter written to the business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng  of the confederation of British Indusrty where they say that it is now the time to plan for the reopeing of the England economy.

The business firms are still in the dark about the plannings for the year and a government representative stated that the lockdown will be lifted as soon as possible, but this is not how the CBI is feeling as they think the lockdown is a perfect time for a business to use wisely for a safe reopning of the shut economy. CBI Direcrtor General Tony Danler stated that, “With health teams rightly in crisis management mode, we in business along with the economic ministries can use this time to plan for a successful re-opening of the economy when the moment is right to do so. Businesses are currently completely in the dark when planning for the weeks and months ahead and this is hindering investment. We can provide more clarity and do the prep work now to enable them to plan for reopening and growth.”

Mr. Danker has written in regard to the calrification on what the government considers or rather clasfies as Low, Medium or High Risk economic activity, so that business owners can understand what can open sooner and who will open up later on in regards to saftey. In the write up it is also questioned as to whenther there will be or not of tiering as a plan of the gradual opening. Mr. Danker has also asked what the hardest part of the economy would be to open in this situation and what the condition of international travel was as well as conditions for hospitals and such in the case the need were to arise.

In a part of the letter he states “The Prime Minister has set out the initial parameters for reopening as a country, which was a big help for businesses. Clearly, the precise dates will be determined by data, so let’s use this time wisely to get the roadmap right together for when lockdown ends. A common framework with devolved administrations must also be possible and help to minimize differences in approach.”

A government spokesperson said: “As the prime minister has made clear, we will lift restrictions as soon as we can, but by lifting them too soon we run the risk of placing our NHS under even greater pressure and having to re-impose restrictions at a later date, By mid-February we will be in a better position to lay out the next steps for the economy without risking renewed pressure on our NHS.”
