Canada ends evacuation flights in Sudan idue to Deteriorating Security Situation

Due to the deteriorating security conditions in Sudan, Canada federal government will no longer engage in evacuations flights. Canadians are urged to avoid travelling to the Wadi Seidna Air Base, according to the latest travel advisory on Sudan, where countries including Canada have organized flights for their citizens and others.

The federal government informed in a travel update notice issued Saturday night. Port Sudan, along the red sea, about 800 from Khartoum, where commercial option is available for Canadians who wishes to leave Sudan.

It is informed that two more evacuation flights out of Sudan on Saturday, with Canadians Air force aircrafts, carrying approximately 205 passengers, including 60 Canadians, reported by the defense minister Anita Anand.

Approximately 205 Canadians and other nationalities were evacuated successfully out of Sudan, on Saturday night, and roughly 400 Citizens and permanent Citizens, have been successfully evacuated out of Sudan on national and Allied flights. Six flights with a total of 550 people in all, among them 140 U.S Citizens, were carried out of Wadi Seidna Air base, by the Canadian Armed forces.

Anand informed, that as of Sunday morning, a further 230 odd Canadians are seeking assistance through global affairs. The evacuations are assisted by the Canadian Air Force, Global Affairs Canada and Immigration and Citizenship Canada.

Two weeks of intense fighting between rival generals leading Sudan’s military, and a powerful paramilitary group known as Rapid Support Force, has resulted in the deaths of 425 Civilians and wounded 2091 as of Sunday, reported by Sudan doctor’s syndicate, which is monitoring casualties.

Tens of thousands of peoples have entered neighboring countries such as Chad and Egypt, while countries have transported thousands of foreigners by Air and Land. However, fighting would continue and warning that the window of opportunity at the airfield is closing, reported by Anand.

Fighting has continued in Sudan, despite a ceasefire agreement, including close to the airbase. A thirty-minute evacuation from Khrtoum by road, is a possibility that possess many risks along the way and not everyone is able to do, said by an official at global affairs Canada.

Federal Government advise Canadians to consider leaving the country through port Sudan, although this brings its own challenges. The ongoing fight will reach the port itself, same problem faced by Khartoum Airport, will be faced by the port, told CTV news channel on Sunday.

With its last planes leaving on Saturday night, the UK government also ended its evacuation flights from Wadi Seidna Air base. A temporary halt has been issued by the Canadian border service agency on removal to Sudan, with a few exceptions.
