Canada (Commonwealth Union)_Canada-based Niagara Pharmaceuticals intends to open its first US business in Cherokee County next year. The Pharmaceutical company produces eyewash products such as emergency wash, contact lens cleansers, self-contained eyewash station additives and conditioners for portable wash units under the brands Health Saver and Pur-Wash. According to company officials, the firm aims to invest $9 million and generate 45 new jobs in the region.
Expressing his delight over the expansion, Andrew Leistner, Chief Executive Officer at Niagara Pharmaceuticals, said: “Niagara Pharmaceuticals is excited to launch our first U.S. operation in Cherokee County. In addition to South Carolina’s business-friendly environment and talented workforce, the state’s strategic location will allow us to connect more efficiently with our customers in the region. We look forward to growing our company and being a part of the South Carolina community.”
According to South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, companies from all over the world in the life sciences sector view South Carolina as a prime location to do business. He also welcomed Niagara Pharmaceuticals’ decision to launch its first US facility in Cherokee County. “It is great news for the company, our state as a whole, and the local community, and we’re grateful for its commitment to our people,” McMaster said.
The location of the company’s new facility is 1290 Mt. Olive Road in Cowpens. According to officials, the purpose of the new facility is to enhance production to assist the firm meet demand. Recently, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development authorized the job development credits associated with this initiative. In addition, the council awarded Cherokee County a $200,000 grant from the Rural Infrastructure Fund to assist with the building improvement expenses. According to authorities, the new plant is anticipated to begin operations in 2023.
