India (Commonwealth Union) Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL) and Altair, a pioneer in computational science and artificial intelligence (AI), have inked a contract to work together on several simulation projects. The solutions from Altair will be used by MDL in this partnership for simulation-driven design and validation, structural fidelity calculations, shock and vibration evaluations, hydrodynamic loading, electromagnetic simulation, and other tasks.

As MDL currently uses a number of Altair products to produce its sophisticated ship engineering and manufacturing capabilities, the partnership agreement enhances the link between the two businesses. In the marine / maritime sectors, Altair solutions are widely employed. For the military and homeland security, Altair assists naval planners with difficult engineering issues and mitigating environmental hazards associated with seagoing loads, including structural, hydraulic, dynamical, thermal, and fatigue concerns, as well as above- and undersea weapon threats. Altair India’s senior vice president of strategic initiatives, Panduranga Rao Chirala, expressed his company’s excitement to continue working with MDL. “Altair and MDL’s continued and expanded partnership will result in advancements in marine and military technologies that make ships safer and more effective for their sailors,” he said.

Over the years, MDL has developed a reputation for producing high-quality work and a history of providing knowledgeable and resourceful assistance to the maritime industry generally as well as the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. In 1934, it was established as a private limited corporation. The Indian Ministry of Defence now oversees MDL, a public sector military business. The design and building of warships, submarines, and commerce ships are MDL’s primary activity. One of India’s top shipyards, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL), focuses primarily on the design and construction of warships, submarines, and commercial ships. A leader in computational science and artificial intelligence (AI), Altair offers software and cloud solutions for simulation, high-performance computing (HPC), data analytics, and AI.
