shared a mental health mantra by Sister Shivani, who is a teacher in the Brahma Kumaris spiritual organization in India. Makhija explained the difference between the stress and the pressure. She said, “Stress slowing you down? Well, I was given this magical hack by sister Shivani which I thought I’d share with you all for you to benefit. She explained that when we say we have so much stress in life, for example not enough money or a poor body image or an ailing loved one, it is not stress. That is what is the pressure that life is throwing at us”.

Makhija said that stress may be overcome via resilience, which can be built through the practice of a set of good behaviors. Makhija advised to use resilience to combat stress. She said, “Stress is equal to ‘pressure over resilience’. Resilience is the strength by which you fight back this pressure, and the stronger the resilience you have, the lesser the pressure. So automatically, the stronger the resilience, less the stress”.

Additionally, she discusses how eating right, sleeping well, and engaging in regular exercise may help us develop resilience, a natural antidote to stress. The nutritionist highlighted certain lifestyle changes to fight back stress. She said, “Of course, having stronger resilience depends upon how well you eat, how healthy is your gut health, therefore how healthy is your mind, how much importance you give to good eating habits, sleep as well as exercise”.

It ultimately depends on you to choose how much stress you can endure. While stressful events are not always within our control, the point at which things become unbearable is entirely up to you!  Makhija concluded her note saying, “So you can give your body all the strength and the resilience to fight back at whatever life has to throw at you. So life can only give you pressure, how much of it you let it stress you, it’s up to you”.
