Hyderabad, India (CWBN)_ Dr Sravan Dasoju, the Telangana Congress Spokesperson requested the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to include the life history of Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi in the state’s school syllabus. He said, “As a mark of respect and gratitude, you are requested to direct the authorities to insert Smt Sonia Gandhi’s life in school syllabus”. The appeal was made on Sonia Gandhi’s birthday yesterday when she turned 74.

Mr. Dasoju said Mr. Rao had earlier said at the state assembly that “there was no Telangana without Sonia Gandhi”, following the formation of the state. Mr Rao, or KCR as he is popularly called, had also said back in 2014 that Sonia Gandhi’s credits for Telangana can never be taken away from her.

The spokesman for Congress accused that nothing was done in return to Sonia Gandhi by the KCR government. When the party-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was in power, the Congress with great support from Sonia Gandhi had pushed for the formation of Telangana.

Mr. Dasoju expressed his opinion about the need to honor Sonia Gandhi. He said, “Since for the great contribution and commitment, it is our prime responsibility to honour Smt Sonia Gandhi for a memorable gift given to all of us. Although KCR is the first beneficiary of the separate state, he didn’t show any interest to respect Smt Sonia Gandhi (sic)…,” he said.

A fight for credit for the creation of the state broke out over a new chapter in the state’s Class 10 history textbook in May 2015, one year after Telangana was separated from Andhra Pradesh. A segment called “The movement for formation of Telangana state” had information about Mr. Rao’s fasting in 2009 and how it contributed to the creation of the new state. No reference was made on Congress or of Mrs. Gandhi.
