This distinction stands as the highest form of recognition within the Canadian Honours System, exemplifying Thind’s outstanding contributions. As the founder of Thind Properties, Thind has made substantial strides in tackling housing shortages by forging partnerships with cities and non-profit entities to offer affordable rental apartments. His impactful efforts underscore his commitment to enhancing housing accessibility and affordability, significantly impacting the local community and beyond.
Thind’s journey to success started when he moved to Burnaby in 1990. While he initially faced challenges in pursuing his desired career as a pharmacist, he found employment as a tile layer, which introduced him to the construction industry. Today, he is responsible for over $4 billion in development and more than 1,000 jobs in Greater Vancouver.
As one of British Columbia’s first Indo-Canadian developers to build high rises, Thind’s work is noted for promoting equitable access to real estate, especially for newcomers. He has also been actively involved in philanthropic efforts, including contributions to mental health, education, housing, sports, women’s rights, and various initiatives aimed at aiding the less fortunate and supporting marginalized communities.
