Officials say that recently four Delhi hospitals, including Deepchand Bandhu Hospital, Dada Dev Hospital, Hedgewar Hospital, and Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, received bomb threat emails. Two days later, messages were sent to another 20 hospitals, the airport, and the office of the Northern Railways. Delhi Fire Service officials also said that they had received calls of bomb threat emails from these four hospitals. The bomb detection team, bomb disposal squad, local police, and the fire department rushed to the spot to conduct searches.
VK Sharma, security officer at Hedgewar Hospital says that the police and the bomb disposal squad are conducting checks and also conducted checks twice. But so far, they didn’t come across anything suspicious. This is the fourth time within the last month that various places, including schools, have received such threats.
According to Delhi Police, a few days ago the IGI Airport received a bomb threat through email from an unknown account. The sender threatened by saying that there is an explosive device inside the building. Similar emails were sent to two government hospitals, including Mangolpuri’s Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and Burari Government Hospital. The Delhi Police has instigated an inquiry into the matter.
Recently police received information regarding the threat from Brurari Hospital, which complaints came in from many other hospitals across the city, and police teams were dispatched but nothing suspicious has been found, says officials. The bomb threats were reported from Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, Guru Tea Bahadur Hospital, Burari Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Dabri’s Dada Dev Hospital and Aruna Asaf Ali Government Hospital in Civil Lines, a senior Delhi Fire Services says officials.
The Guru Nanak Dev Eye Hospital, Gramin Swastha Prashikshan Sansthan in Najafgarh, and ILBS in Vasant Kunj are among the hospitals that were also checked by the local police since the emails were sent to them as well. The CPRO building situated at State Entry Road in Connaught Place was also checked but nothing suspicious was found. At some of the hospitals, the checks were going on till late at night.
The Security Operations Control Centre at IGI Airport has received a threat email regarding an explosive device inside the building. Improved security protocols are now in effect, and safety measures have been intensified. Legal action has been initiated. No suspicious items have been found as of now, says Deputy Commission of Police (IGI) Usha Rangnani.
