Washington, D.C. (Commonwealth Union)_On Tuesday (Nov 15), Donald Trump announced that he will be contesting for the Republican presidential nomination for the United States in 2024. The former president stated that his campaign would align his views of making America great again.
His announcement was made in Florida at the Mar-a-Lago Club where he stood crowded in banners that read his slogan “Make America Great Again”. In his speech, he further clarified that “America’s golden age is just ahead”.
This announcement has sparked immense disruption in the political environment of the United States, especially following records of misconduct filed under the name of the former president. This includes the attack on January 6th which was allegedly led by Trump.
Trump’s announcement of candidacy for the third time, came at a time which isn’t the best for him in order to support his campaign. The former president is currently in the midst of facing investigations and interrogations pertaining to the attack on the Congress on the 6th of January. However, Trump has used the situation to his advantage stating that he is the victim and these are ploys by the opposing parties who aim to paint him negatively ahead of the elections.
The former US leader’s hour-long speech contained a statement which said that defeating current President Joe Biden would be easier for him in the 2024 election as the public is now aware of the mismanagement and turmoil that occurred during his tenure. His plight suggested that his prime focus would be to regain the glory America has lost as a nation.
While looking at the elections, two years in advance, the possibility of a rematch from 2020 is seemingly possible with rumours of current president Joe Biden preparing his own re-election campaign, with the idea of securing a second-term for himself. Trump’s announcement has definitely caused quite a stir, while we anticipate more political uproar following this public declaration.
