India (Commonwealth Union)_ In a recent Council of Ministers meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, discussions revolved around the roadmap for the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision, which would be undertaken if the NDA secured governance following the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections slated for April-May 2024. This gathering deliberated on a 100-day action plan, envisaging immediate steps post the formation of a new government in May, aimed at realizing the NDA’s comprehensive five-year strategy, as disclosed by officials acquainted with the day-long deliberations.

As per government sources, the framework for “Viksit Bharat” has reportedly been crafted over a span exceeding two years, adopting a holistic approach across governmental sectors, with active involvement from all ministries. It entailed extensive consultations with state governments, academia, industry stakeholders, civil society, scientific institutions, and the mobilization of youth for valuable inputs. During the session, Prime Minister Modi addressed the attendees, which comprised all ministers and departmental secretaries, for approximately an hour, signaling the significance attributed to the discussion.

Reports indicate that the vision document has undergone meticulous development through over 2700 meetings spanning ministries from December 2021 to January 2024. It incorporates the scrutiny and integration of 450 recommendations arising from consultations with 15 different stakeholders. Reportedly, the government received input from over two million young citizens. The roadmap for ‘Viksit Bharat’ delineates a comprehensive strategy, encapsulating a national vision, aspirations, objectives, and detailed action plans. The report further specifies that the objectives encompass diverse facets such as economic growth, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fostering a conducive business environment, bolstering infrastructure, and enhancing social welfare, among others.

During the presentation of the interim Budget for 2024 in Parliament last month, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman underscored the government’s commitment, under PM Modi’s leadership, to steer the nation towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India) by 2047. Sitharaman also highlighted the aspiration for an all-encompassing economic and social development model. The Council of Ministers’ assembly on March 3 purportedly represents the final such gathering preceding the Lok Sabha elections, with the NDA expressing unwavering confidence in securing a resounding mandate.

PM Modi’s vision for Viksit Bharat aims at propelling India into developed nation status by 2047, marking a century since independence from British colonial rule. In recent discussions, Modi outlined the roadmap for Viksit Bharat 2047, elucidating national objectives, goals, and actionable strategies for the upcoming five years. The vision underscores pivotal areas such as economic advancement, pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals, elevation of living standards, facilitation of business endeavors, augmentation of infrastructure, and promotion of societal welfare.

Modi underscores the imperative of ensuring inclusive economic participation for all citizens under the initiative of the Viksit Bharat vision. The central objective of the action plan is to position India as the world’s third-largest economy within the ensuing five-year period, contingent upon the NDA’s electoral success. The BJP disclosed its initial roster of 195 candidates for the imminent general elections, which includes prominent figures such as PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. The candidate list reflects inclusivity, with representation from diverse demographics, including women, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and other backward classes (OBCs).

The Cabinet assembly convened a day subsequent to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiling its initial candidate list for the forthcoming general elections, where PM Modi seeks a third consecutive term. This roster includes 195 candidates hailing from 16 states, comprising 28 women and 47 candidates below the age of 50. Additionally, the government’s think tank, NITI Aayog, is engrossed in formulating a document aimed at catapulting India into a $30 trillion economy by 2047. This forthcoming document is anticipated to delineate required measures spanning various sectors encompassing infrastructure, welfare, commerce, industry, technology, and governance.
