Ukraine (Commonwealth Union)_ In light of the deteriorating security situation and recent intensification of hostilities, the Indian embassy in Ukraine discouraged its residents from traveling to the war-hit country. As the country’s situation is worsening every day, the embassy advised its people to refrain from traveling to Ukraine and also urged the Indians to return home at the earliest.

The Indian embassy in Ukraine took to Twitter to announce the news. “In view of the deteriorating security situation and recent escalation of hostilities across Ukraine, Indian nationals are advised against traveling to Ukraine,” the embassy tweeted. “The Indian citizens, including students, currently in Ukraine are advised to leave Ukraine at the earliest by available means,” it added.

The alert was issued hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin imposed martial rule in four areas of Ukraine which Moscow had seized and gave all regional governors in Russia emergency powers that allowed for broad new restrictions across the nation. According to Russian law, martial law might mandate the prohibition of public meetings, the imposition of travel restrictions and curfews and the implementation of censorship, among other limitations.

Following President Putin’s mobilization of army reservists last month, Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kyiv, have been bombarded frequently. Numerous lives have been lost in Ukraine, including those of civilians. The country’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that there is no room for negotiations with his Russian counterpart. In the meantime, Europe has just increased its sanctions against Russia.

India expressed grave worry earlier this month about the escalation of the crisis in Ukraine, especially the attacks on people and killings of civilians. “We reiterate that an increase in hostilities is in no one’s interest. We urge the immediate termination of hostilities and an urgent return to the path of diplomacy and dialogue. India is willing to support all such efforts aimed at de-escalation, read the latest statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs”.
