Africa (Commonwealth Union) _ The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has signed into law the N971 billion 2025 Appropriation Bill, signaling a transformative step toward economic expansion and inclusive prosperity. The budget, aptly titled the “Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity,” reflects the administration’s commitment to sustainable development and equitable progress.

With a record N837.9 billion allocated to capital expenditure (86% of the budget) and N133.1 billion to recurrent expenditure (14%), the plan prioritizes long-term growth. The education sector leads the allocations, receiving N320.6 billion, over 33% of the total, marking the second consecutive year it has secured the largest share.

During the signing ceremony, attended by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, and other lawmakers, Governor Mbah emphasized the urgency of exponential growth for the state. He noted, “Development does not happen by wishful thinking. It requires intentional and visionary planning.” He stressed that the budget’s strategic focus ensures that no individual or community is left behind in the march toward prosperity.

Governor Mbah highlighted the comprehensive approach to tackling development challenges across Enugu State. “Our strategy recognizes that marginal growth is insufficient. This budget sets the foundation for exponential progress, ensuring that no child or individual goes to bed hungry,” he said, framing the budget as a “Christmas gift” to the people of Enugu.

Speaker Hon. Uchenna Ugwu attributed the seamless passage of the budget to collaborative planning between the executive and legislature. He praised Governor Mbah’s leadership, citing the high performance of the 2024 budget as evidence of his administration’s capacity to deliver results.

“The transparency and foresight in this budget preparation guarantee that Ndi Enugu will continue to witness unprecedented development,” Ugwu remarked. He assured that the House would provide robust oversight and support to ensure the budget achieves its intended goals.

The budget’s ambitious goals are already visible across sectors, from improved road infrastructure and healthcare facilities to significant investments in education and tourism. As the speaker aptly noted, “Education, taking one-third of the budget, is key to eradicating poverty and building a sustainable future.”

Governor Mbah’s administration is poised to leverage this budget to propel Enugu State into an era of shared prosperity, fostering a legacy of growth and opportunity for all citizens.
