Evacuation is underway on continuing flood warning f the Klondike River;

Commonwealth _Canada _ The Rock Creek region in Dawson City, Yukon, is currently undergoing a tactical evacuation once more as a result of the dangerously high Klondike River. A little more than a week after downgrading a previous warning to a flood watch, authorities have issued another flood warning for the area.

A tactical evacuation occurs when locals are encouraged to evacuate the area but are not required to do so. Jake John Armstrong, who was working on Wednesday placing sandbags around his house in the Dredge Pond community, remarked, “Here we are again.”  A lot of friends are helping out, and at difficult times, the community really pulls together.

Emergency personnel said that recent days of heavy rain and snowmelt have caused the river to swell once more. Ice jams on the Klondike were mostly responsible for the flooding earlier this month. Duchesne claimed that the recent, intense rain is also a problem. On Wednesday, some houses in the Rock Creek region saw water levels that were similar to those seen earlier in the month.

When Deanna Ford woke up on Wednesday morning, the water was rising all around her. Deanna is from British Columbia and spends her summers in the Dawson City region.  The river level may peak on Wednesday, according to officials, but flooding may persist given the further rain that is forecast over the next few days.

A few local roadways are now blocked due to the excessive water. The portion of the North Klondike Highway that runs between Stewart Crossing and the Dempster Highway cut-off was blocked up as of Wednesday afternoon. According to authorities, excessive water at the Clear Creek bridge (km 594) had rendered the road dangerous and was endangering the structure.

Additionally, a number of washouts in recent days have caused the Dempster Highway to be blocked. roadway officials announced their intention to open the roadway to single-lane traffic by Thursday in the late afternoon on Wednesday.
