Exercise sessions for plus-sized people gaining attention!

London, United Kingdom (CU)_ New workout sessions have been established exclusively for plus-sized individuals who have previously felt uneasy at standard gyms. Exeter Live and Move, Wellbeing Exeter, and Exeter City Football Club are sponsoring the “phat” health sessions. According to the founders of the new Phat sessions, their goal is to be inclusive and to assist people build confidence.

According to Jess Crew, the organizer of the program, the sessions were designed to assist folks with bigger bodies and provide them the necessary confidence. The sessions started on November 2 and will last for five weeks. Ms Crew spoke about the classes. He said, “Phat with a ph means excellent and we run excellent classes for people who are plus-sized”.

Jess Crew said that following her failed attempts to find a comfortable, inexpensive, and plus-size-focused fitness group for herself and friends, she was motivated to start the sessions especially for the plus-sized people. She spoke about the real needs of fat people. She said, “This is an inclusion issue really, health and fitness professionals who don’t have experience living in a larger body don’t actually know what bigger people need”.

Jess Crew also shared her own experience with other gyms. She said, “So I was told to do couch to 5k but I damaged my knee because I had no idea what I was doing and knees actually take a lot of stress particularly when you’re carrying a lot more weight”. She also added about the uniqueness of these sessions and the experience of the trainers here. She said, “These classes are run by people who have personal experience of being larger or have a special interest in helping people with larger bodies. So they are bespoke, give people confidence and we don’t have the thing of walking into a gym and you’re the only bigger person there.”
