Faulty aircraft strands…

-

Justin Trudeau Prime Minister will extend at least another night India while his plane is fixed, after it was stranded Sunday night.

The technical problem has left the Canadian delegation stuck and further a new layer of obstacle to an existing rocky tour to New Delhi for the G20 Summit.

Government sources informed a specialist flying commercial has departed for India with an equipment required to fix the 1980s-era aircraft, while two military aircraft have been arranged as a back-up plan if the issue can’t be determined.

A representative with the Department of National Defense informed Global News in an email Monday that a problem with a module was revealed with the prime minister’s Royal Canadian Air Force CC-150 Polaris.

That unit must be changed before the aircraft is able to fly again, the representative said.

The Canadian Armed Forces is attempting their best efforts to get the Canadian delegation back home. We will keep you updated regularly as the situation progresses,”, said the press secretary to the prime minister Mohammad Hussain, on Monday.

This is the latest problem faced by the four-decade-old aircraft, which has had a multitude of mechanical difficulties over the years.

At present, one of the most valuable resources the political heads possess is time. They just directly don’t have the time to linger, waiting for the plane to get sorted out, said Canadian Global Affairs Institute Dave Perry from a Calgary-based think-tank.

The government contracted a $3.6-billion agreement with Airbus to change its outdated Polaris fleet, together with a replacement aircraft for the prime minister.

The defense representative said the replacement planes arrived in Ottawa on Aug. 31, but were not complete in time for the G20 summit. They are anticipated to be in service this fall.

They need to be improved to surge abilities and crews are still undergoing training. Perry informed the fleet should have been purchased a decade ago.

He said, the governments, plural, delayed too long to mobilize. The replacements are anticipated to be in service by fall.

The prolonged stay in India plugs an anxious visit by Trudeau to Delhi and another disturbed visit to India. His visit to the country in 2018 was extensively condemned as a diplomatic disaster.

Trudeau’s current association with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is often defined as tense, restricting from a Sikh separatist crusade in Canada and Trudeau’s backing for a farmers objection against the Indian government.

Those strains were on display during the G20 summit last weekend. Trudeau’s communication with Modi seemed transitory and overformal, including a brisk handshake.

Trudeau also did not appear for certain proceedings at the G20 like a dinner gala presented by Modi.

The two heads had a transitory discussion during the final day of the summit.

Subsequent to their meeting, Trudeau held a news discussion. When questioned by reporters, Trudeau accepted he brought up the subject of foreign intrusion by India in Canadian affairs.

Meanwhile, an announcement by the Indian government informed Modi raised “anti-India activities of extremist elements in Canada.”
