ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CWBN)_Following discussion held between Chinese Defence Minister, General Wei Fenghe, and representatives of the Pakistani Army, including Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, and Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Nadeem Raza, earlier today (1st Dec) at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, it was announced that a memorandum of understanding was signed by the two parties.

The agreement is expected to solidify military relationships between China and Pakistan, amidst rising tensions with India with regard to the Kashmir territory which has been a region of strategic interest to the two allies both military and economically.

The escalation follows a similar move by India and the United States, where the parties signed off on the last of four foundational defence agreements, referred to as the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA), on the 27th of October this year.

The Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) was signed earlier in 2018, whereas the Logistics Exchange Memorandum Agreement (LEMA) was signed in 2016 and the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) was signed in 2002.

All these agreements relate to the sharing of real-time intelligence, established standards and protocols, logistical and supply assistance, tech access, etc.
