Canada (Commonwealth Union)_ Future York University students! We are excited to share some fantastic news with you! York University is offering an amazing opportunity called the York University President’s International Scholarship of Excellence, and you could be one of the lucky recipients.
Here are the details:
- Application Deadline: February 1st, 2024. So mark your calendars and make sure you get everything in by then.
- Offered Annually: Yes! This means you have a chance to apply every year.
- Eligible Countries: Everyone from around the globe is welcome to apply. It’s an international affair!
- Location: The beautiful country of Canada. Get ready for an incredible educational experience in a diverse and vibrant environment.
- Fields of Study: You can apply to one of these faculties: Arts, Media, Performance & Design; Environmental Studies; Education; Glendon; Health; Lassonde School of Engineering; Liberal Arts & Professional Studies; Science; or the Schulich School of Business.
- Level: This scholarship is for undergraduate students, so if you’re looking to start your Bachelor’s degree, this is perfect for you.
To be eligible, you need to:
Be an international student who needs a Study Permit to study in Canada. We’ll help you with that process, so no worries.
Have applied to an undergraduate program at York that starts in Fall 2024. The journey begins!
Be a fresh high school graduate, having applied to York within two years of graduating. If you’re just out of high school, this is your golden ticket.
Have an excellent academic record with a minimum “A” average or equivalent. You’ve been putting in the hard work, and it’s paying off!
Show some leadership skills through community service or excelling in areas like arts, sports, or other individual achievements. We want to know what makes you stand out!
Be nominated by your high school. Each school can nominate one student, so make sure you chat with your school’s guidance counselor or principal.
If nominated, you’ll be considered not only for the York University President’s International Scholarship of Excellence but also for other prestigious awards like the Global Leader of Tomorrow Award, the International Circle of Scholars Scholarships, and the York University Academic Excellence Scholarships.
Don’t forget to talk to your school about the York International Student Scholarship & Award Application. Once you’re nominated, you’ll need to provide some details about your nominator.
Include a letter of recommendation. We’d love to hear what others have to say about you!
Ensure all required documents are received by York University (MyFile) by February 1, 2024, at 11:59:59 pm, Eastern Time.
Complete and submit the online International Student Scholarship Application by the same deadline. We want to get to know you better!
Selection Criteria:
We’re looking for the best and brightest, so having the highest academic average is a big plus.
Leadership and demonstrated skills are also crucial. Show us what you’re made of!
To keep the scholarship, you’ll need to maintain a high academic standing (7.80 on a 9-point York scale) throughout your time at York.
By applying for this scholarship, you’ll also be considered for other international scholarships that require an application.
Now for the really exciting part!
We’ll be awarding this scholarship to 20 outstanding students.
Each scholarship is valued at $45,000 per year, renewable for four years. That’s a total of $180,000 to support your education journey!

Head over to the online application form at this link. Remember, you’ll need a minimum ‘A’ average or equivalent (York factor 8 or 9) to be considered.
The application form includes a personal statement from you (500 words or less), your financial profile, a list of your activities and volunteer experiences, and two letters of reference, one of which must be academic.
