Greatest agricultural innovations take stage

Agriculture and Climate Change (Commonwealth Union) _ The 2024 Ag Expo showcased innovative agricultural technology at the Lethbridge and District Exhibition Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre, offering farmers and producers an opportunity to network, exhibit, and invest in new products and services. Dave Fiddler, senior advisor to the show operations, highlighted the event’s focus on cutting-edge technologies transforming the agriculture industry.

Mark Weber, representing Frontlink, introduced the FarmDroid, the world’s first autonomous seeder and weeder powered by solar energy. The FarmDroid operates autonomously, mechanically weeding fields without the need for fuel or chemicals. Weber emphasized the cost-saving benefits and environmental advantages of this innovative technology, which operates continuously and alerts users of any issues via email.

Sky Drones, based in Southern Alberta, showcased the DJI AGRAS T40 drone, offering significant cost savings and operational efficiency compared to traditional sprayers. Loren Ginn highlighted the drone’s versatility, user-friendliness, and ability to cover large areas quickly. Ginn also discussed the compatibility of the drone with Sky Drones’ scanning drone, enhancing efficiency and accuracy in agricultural operations.

Bio-Agtive Emissions Farming, represented by owner Gary Lewis, presented a revolutionary method of recycling internal combustion emissions into rich plant nutrition. This approach, showcased in its sixth generation, aims to improve crop quality and yield while reducing the reliance on synthetic fertilizers. Lewis emphasized the nutritional benefits observed in crops grown using this method and the company’s participation in the Musk Foundation’s XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition.

Meridian Manufacturing, represented by Rob Reimer, highlighted its grain storage and handling products, emphasizing the company’s commitment to supporting local communities and economies. Reimer underscored the importance of the agricultural industry as a driver of local economies and the significance of events like the Ag Expo in facilitating industry connections and collaborations.

Overall, the 2024 Ag Expo demonstrated the industry’s shift towards high-tech solutions aimed at enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and productivity in agriculture.
