It can be especially stressful for students dealing with college finals and the weeks following up to it. While some stress may begin with poor time management and preparation. Students are worried that it will affect their course grade and future goals, if they score low during their exams. Sometimes when preparing for final exams it becomes more challenging because many courses have end of – term project to complete as well.

Experts say, some stress motivate students to be productive and can be healthy, but prevents it from becoming overwhelming requires a game plan. There are ways how students can mitigate stress of college finals.

College students, cramming for a final exam may be a time-honored tradition, but experts say that it’s an ineffective way to prepare. While some students cram as a way to stay sharp on knowledge they’ve obtained, for students who procrastinated on their studies, it can contribute to heightened stress level.

According to Andrew Hsu, president of the college of Charleston in South Carolina, the best plan is to start preparing early. You need to start at least, four weeks before your final exams. If you cram everything in, during those last couple of hours, your mind will not retain information very well. you really need to give your mind time to absorb the information and know how to utilize that information.

As finals approach, students prone to anxiety might neglect self-care and hygiene, sleeping late and eating at random times. To fill their time and avoid studying for exams, they may look to various methods of distractions. To fight this, student should establish and stick with a routine.

If you have to study for five exams, organize it in a such a way, where you don’t end up getting stuck with studying only one subject.

To follow a schedule, you really need to force yourself, so that it will not destress you at the end of the day.

As final exams approach, among students there’s a tendency where they do a lot at once, but multitasking can be less effective. Experts always recommend to focus on each task individually and exclusively, which helps to lead more productivity and better health.

Some students are at a point in a semester where the ship has sailed on planning ahead. Within a short period of time, they need to catch up and understand the information.

If you happen to come across this situation, where your professor can’t find time to meet, seek out another professor who teaches the same subject and get help from them.

A good sleep will help you recharge and be more focused, while exercise can release endorphins and dopamine which will help to regulate stress levels.

Taking care of our physical health is protective for our mental health. Even for few minutes take some break, to connect with others can help recharge you and is good for our health and wellbeing as humans.
