The United Kingdom has had an amazing growth in the workforce where apprenticeships has been concerned in the –past for years. This is all thanks to the apprentice reforms that was launched in 2017 by the government to help set up the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical education. The institution itself at that time had around 80 full time staff in the first year of operation and it grew to 160 in 2019. By 2021 it was well over 200. The annual budget for the institute has gone up from 9.7 million pounds to well over 25 million pounds in the last 4 years.

The institute itself is preparing for another recruitment drive as it is setting up new areas for technical skills as well as reviewing other areas where workforce is needed. Two new job-sharing strategy directors, Rachel Cooper and Beth Chaudhary, were announced this week by the institute. The pair previously held the same joint role in the Cabinet Office but will come onboard to help the institute deliver on its new functions. The goal for these two ladies is to make sure that all apprentice jobs of entry level and new higher technical qualification are met and supported to both the employee and employer.

The institute is in the process of forming a three step job advertising programme so that all candidates are better suited and proper education can be provided before they were to face the apprenticeship. It was stated that the purpose of the groups will be to “make sure that our work is employer facing, and properly understands different parts of the economy…it is about us listening even more to what employers say and helping them to play a bigger role”. This also explains that when the institution was formed it had been organized into functional oriented groups.
