Hub signs deal to purchase Aviva Canada subsidiary

According to Hub, National Home Warranty collaborates with over 3,500 registered builders to offer new warranty coverage to around 15,000 houses and homeowners each year.

According to the LinkedIn profile of National Home Warranty, the Aviva Canada business controls around 45 percent of the new home warranty market in British Columbia and about 65 percent in Manitoba. National Home Warranty covers about a quarter of the new home and condo warranty market in Alberta. It serves approximately 3 million clients in total.

The National Home Warranty staff will team up with Hub Canada West after the acquisition. Although purchasing house insurance is not required in Canada, most banks and mortgage lenders will request proof of coverage before extending a mortgage. One P&C digital brokerage in Western Canada has collaborated with mortgage technology firm Filogix to enable mortgage brokers to get a home insurance quote along with any mortgage application. 

According to a press statement from Finastra earlier this month, the collaboration between Magrath, Alta-based Surex, and Filogix would enable brokers to access more than 10 services from Canadian insurance companies, everything under the Filogix Expert platform, which is a Finastra company.

Lance Miller, CEO and co-founder of Surex, expressed optimism over the partnership. He said, “We are always trying to make the insurance buying process easier. Now, with this partnership, Canadians can take the — sometimes complicated — process of obtaining a mortgage, together with home insurance, and have it all done seamlessly in the same transaction.”
