ICT integration in education further developed in Seychelles.

Seychelles looks forward to benefiting more from the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in teacher education. Information and communication technology (ICT) integration and skill development for livelihood after a two-day evaluation that was held recently.

The meeting in Seychelles will be attended by the intergovernmental educational organization of the Commonwealth. Their main target is to achieve respective programs and evaluate their progress.

Savoy Resort and Spa on Mahe, the main island where the meeting was held, will help to improve online learning facilities, according to the plans made by Seychelles. Professor Asha Kanwar, the President and CEO of the Commonwealth of Learning told the press that, most people from the Ministries of Education will be attending the meeting.

She also mentioned that from participants organization will learn, “What their priorities are and when we develop our annual implementation. Plan for the next year these priorities will be taken into account and help address them in a phased manner”

The meeting was originally scheduled to be held in 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed. It was officially launched by Dr. Justin Valentin, Seychelle’s education minister.

John Lesperance, The Principal Secretary for education sector Development, and the Minister of Education said the involvement of the COL by Seychelles, was one that is beneficial to the island nation.

In the COL, Seychelles is very active and has greatly benefited from it. To develop an ICT Centre at the Ministry of Education, where financial resources were given by them.

They have also given the Seychelles Institute of teacher education (SITE) to support, to develop its teacher education activities. Since the latest COL meeting is taking place, putting forward the country’s wish to develop more technology in education and modernize its educational system will be its main focal point.

It is important that the commonwealth gives us support with the capacity building for our teachers and especially in the introduction of open educational resources, said Lesperance.

To build the country’s technical capacity, Lesperance spoke about the plans to establish training schools and vocational and technical education. At the end of the meeting, in the annual implementation plan, final inputs will be included.
