India (Commonwealth Union)_ During the stressful days of Operation Sindoor at the India-Pakistan border in May, 10-year-old Shravan Singh from Punjab‘s Ferozepur district demonstrated courage and compassion beyond his years. While other children of his age were busy with school and play, Shravan discreetly came forward to assist Indian Army soldiers stationed in his village. His efforts have now earned him the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. Shravan from Chak Taran Wali village often delivered milk, tea, buttermilk, and ice to soldiers stationed at advanced stations during heightened military alert. His simple act of service, done daily despite the risks in a tense environment, impressed both villagers and the armed forces.

Recalling those days, Shravan stated, “When Operation Sindoor began, soldiers came to our village. I thought I should help them. I used to bring milk, tea, and ice every day. I never imagined this would lead to an award. I feel very happy.” At the time, the border situation was volatile. Civilians were advised to remain cautious as military tensions ran high. Yet, Shravan continued his small but significant service, showing courage that many adults might have hesitated to display.

AAP leader Raghav Chadha praised Shravan’s bravery, saying the boy “served water, milk, and tea to soldiers at high-risk locations and stood firm where many adults would hesitate. His actions prove that patriotism is measured by deeds, not age.” The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is awarded to children who have demonstrated exceptional talent, courage, or service in fields including bravery, social work, innovation, sports, science, and the arts. Shravan was selected in recognition of his fearless support for soldiers during a critical and dangerous moment.

Operation Sindoor, initiated on May 7 in response to a terror incident in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, saw India conducting surgical attacks on militant infrastructure throughout Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The subsequent drone and missile strikes by Pakistan were rendered ineffective, and both sides were able to mutually cease all military operations on May 10. Shravan’s award serves to honor a very courageous young person who chooses to take action by helping others when they are in peril. This story is a reminder that heroism can be shown through the smallest acts of kindness and selflessness.
