Indian-American appointed as the new CEO of YouTube!

Susan recently announced her resignation following 25 years of service at the Google-owned firm. Mohan, the chief product officer, joined YouTube’s parent company Google in 2008. He is a graduate of Stanford and formerly worked at Microsoft.

Mohan and Wojcicki have served together for about fifteen years. In 2015, he became YouTube’s chief product officer. Wojcicki announced her resignation on her website. She wrote, “Today, after nearly 25 years here, I’ve decided to step back from my role as the head of YouTube and start a new chapter focused on my family, health, and personal projects I’m passionate about”. She has agreed with Sundar Pichai to assume a job as a consultant for Google and Alphabet.

Wojcicki added, “This will allow me to call on my different experiences over the years to offer counsel and guidance across Google and the portfolio of Alphabet companies”. Over a career spanning 25 years, Wojcicki has held numerous roles at Google. She oversaw marketing, co-developed Google Image Search, led Google’s initial Video and Book search, and the early stages of AdSense’s creation, served on the YouTube and DoubleClick acquisitions, worked as SVP of Ads, and has been the CEO of YouTube for the past nine years.

Further, Wojcicki stated that Mohan will become the SVP and new CEO of YouTube. Mohan has worked with her for about 15 years. Initially, he joined Google with the DoubleClick acquisition in 2007, and then he was elevated to become SVP of Display and Video Ads. She added, “I took on each challenge that came my way because it had a purpose that benefited the lives of so many people across the world: finding information, narrating stories, and supporting creators, artists, and small businesses”.

Mohan has established a top-grade product and UX team, managed the Trust and Safety team, and played key roles in the introduction of some of YouTube’s most popular products, including YouTube TV, YouTube Music, and Premium and Shorts.
