Houston, Texas (Commonwealth Union)_ A renowned Indian-American business couple has contributed a $1 million donation to support the manufacturing lab equipment at the University of Houston. Alumni Brij Agrawal and his wife Sunita are supporting manufacturing lab equipment at the University of Houston College of Technology facility in Sugar Land, a Greater Houston suburb. “I would not have graduated from college if it wasn’t for the UH System. That is why I am so passionate about supporting UH,” Agrawal said.

The entrepreneur couple is contributing to the funding of manufacturing laboratory equipment, such as the most recent 3D printers, machine tools and measurement test equipment, as well as the establishment of an advanced manufacturing design center focusing on small and medium-sized businesses. “I live in Sugar Land and that makes me more attached to the UH at Sugar Land campus,” Agarwal added.

As a token of love, the university will honor the couple by naming the ground-floor auditorium the Brij and Sunita Agrawal Auditorium. Agrawal, a native of Lakhanpur, Punjab, India, relocated to Houston at age 17 and attended UH at night while working full-time. The entrepreneur attributed his success to the foundation provided by his college. He stated that his higher studies and experience at the college played a major role in his successful career as CEO and President of VKC Group.

According to the statement from the university, after matching donations from the George Foundation, which will match USD 1 million, and the Texas Research Incentive Program, the Agrawals’ overall impact could exceed USD 3.5 million. The Agrawals have made several contributions to the school. The couple also contributed financially during the initial stages of building at UH in Sugar Land. Additionally, they also formed a Presidential Endowment to finance engineering student scholarships at UH.
