Infosys’s Narayana Murthy expresses confidence in son-in-law Rishi Sunak

United Kingdom (Commonwealth Union)_ NR Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys and father-in-law of the new UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, wished his son-in-law and expressed confidence that the first British prime minister of Indian descent will do his best for the British people. Sunak, a graduate of both Oxford and Stanford, is married to Akshata Murthy, the daughter of billionaire Narayana Murthy.

Wishing his son-in-law in a statement, the Infosys founder wrote: “Congratulations to Rishi”. He expressed pride and confidence over his son-in-law’s success and stated that he will do his best for the people of the United Kingdom. The British Conservative Party declared Rishi Sunak as their new leader on Monday. Thus, Sunak has now become the nation’s first leader of Asian descent. Sunak’s fortune came on the heels of Truss’ departure after her high-profile dismissal and resignation from her cabinet, following a severely criticized mini-budget that sent the British pound plummeting.

Following Sunak’s victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the new British PM and expressed his eagerness to collaborate closely with him on global concerns. “Warmest congratulations @RishiSunak! As you become UK PM, I look forward to working closely together on global issues, and implementing Roadmap 2030. Special Diwali wishes to the ‘living bridge’ of UK Indians, as we transform our historic ties into a modern partnership,” PM Modi write on Twitter.

After the brief tenure of Truss as British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson were viewed as the leading candidates for the position. However, despite claiming to have the necessary support, Boris Johnson declared himself out of the Conservative Party leadership campaign. According to the former PM of the UK, “This would simply not be the correct thing to do because you cannot lead successfully without a united party in Parliament.”
