The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) is the country’s biggest ethnic medical group, with over 100,000 physicians. According to AAPI president Dr Anupama Gotimukula, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to deliver a video message at the annual AAPI convention, which will take place from June 23 to 26, and Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya is also expected to attend the conference.
Additionally, an invitation has been delivered to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Dr Rahul Gupta, Director of National Drug Control Policy and the first physician to oversee the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), will also speak at the convention. He is the Biden administration’s highest-ranking Indian-American.
Gotimukula expressed delight over the event. She stated, “This convention will be our 40th year of AAPI. It is a landmark event”. Reminding that the country is currently in the midst of Covid-19 and is reaching its conclusion, she stated that they anticipate a big number of delegations in San Antonio, Texas, and that all necessary safeguards would be implemented. She stated that the conference would also focus on yoga and meditation and how these approaches may help alleviate stress. Another aspect of the convention that will be stressed is lifestyle modification. She said, “What we are planning for your convention is mostly on basic topics”.
Gotimukula stated that the keynote lecture will be delivered by Hotez, a globally renowned physician-scientist specializing in tropical illnesses and vaccine development. According to her, because of Hotez’s efforts and generosity, millions of doses of new, low-cost coronavirus vaccines will soon be delivered to India.
