USA (Commonwealth Union)_ Indian talent has earned another major global recognition, with three distinguished Indian-origin experts being chosen to play key roles in shaping the future of US monetary policy. Accordingly, former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan, Harvard economist Raj Chetty and Microsoft executive Asha Sharma have been appointed to lead three of the five task forces set up by the US Federal Reserve. The appointments are part of a wide-ranging review launched by newly appointed Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh to examine how the central bank develops and implements monetary policy in a rapidly changing global economy.
The groups also include several prominent global leaders, such as former Bank of England Governor Mervyn King, former Walmart CEO Doug McMillon, Nobel Prize-winning economist Thomas Sargent, and Silicon Valley venture capitalist Marc Andreessen. The task forces will recommend reforms in critical areas such as balance sheet policy, economic data, productivity, inflation and communication strategy by the end of the year. Warsh described the panel as a gathering of some of the brightest minds from different fields, saying the goal is to strengthen the Federal Reserve’s ability to meet future economic challenges.
