New Delhi, India (CU)_ Congress President Sonia Gandhi accused the Modi government for being arrogant to the farmers’ protest. With the farmers’ protest getting intense day by day, Sonia Gandhi raised her voice in support of the protesting farmers. In a searing attack on the central government over the farmers’ protests on Sunday, she indicated that for the first time in history since independence that an arrogant government had come to power who could not even realize the suffering of “annadatas” and called for the immediate withdrawal of new farm laws unconditionally.

Ms Gandhi made a statement in Hindi where she mentioned that any government who is being arrogant and disregarding public sentiments cannot stay in power for long and now it’s sure that the protesting farmers will not compromise or bow to the center’s “tire and pushover” policy.

Ms Gandhi insisted the Modi government to leave the arrogant attitude towards farmers. She said, “There is still time, the Modi government should leave the arrogance of power and immediately withdraw the three black laws unconditionally to end the agitation of the farmers who are dying in the cold and rain. This is Raj Dharma and a true tribute to the farmers who have lost their lives”. Ms Gandhi added that the Modi government should realize the meaning of democracy and act accordingly. She said it is the government’s duty to protect the interests of the people and the farmer-workers.

Ms Gandhi said, “Along with the people of the country, I am also disturbed seeing the condition of the ‘annadatas’ who have been agitating for 39 days at the borders of Delhi in the bitter cold and rain in support of their demands”. Ms Gandhi highlighted that due to the government’s arrogant behavior, more than 50 protesting farmers have already sacrificed their lives and that some farmers even committed suicide.

The Congress president accused the government for not considering the deaths of the protesting farmers. “But neither the heartless Modi government relented nor the Prime Minister or any other minister uttered a word of consolation till today. I pay my respects to all the deceased farmer brothers and pray to the Lord to give their families the strength to bear this sorrow”.

Ms Gandhi said, “Since independence, this is the first such arrogant government that has come to power in the history of the country that, leave alone people, cannot even see the sufferings and struggles of ‘annadatas‘”. She accused that securing profits for selected industrialists is the main focus of the government that they still keep ignoring the farmers.
