India (Commonwealth Union)_ Indian banking is changing rapidly as technology becomes a bigger part of everyday financial services. From instant digital payments to voice-based banking and artificial intelligence-driven systems, banks are increasingly looking for ways to make services faster, safer and easier to access. At the Global FinTech Fest (GFF) 2026, Bank of India (BOI) presented 12 digital initiatives that show how a public-sector bank is adapting to this changing environment. The initiatives cover payments, cards, digital currency, self-service banking, compliance, customer engagement and partnerships with fintech companies. Together, they reflect BOI’s wider effort to combine its traditional banking network with newer technologies. The bank’s booth was inaugurated by Rajneesh Karnatak, Managing Director and CEO of Bank of India, along with senior bank executives and representatives from technology and fintech partners.

Making digital payments simpler

UPI Help 2.0

A major part of BOI’s showcase focused on India’s expanding digital payments ecosystem. UPI Help 2.0, integrated with the Omni Neo mobile banking application, is designed to give customers greater control over their UPI transactions. Users can check transaction histories, raise complaints, manage mandates across UPI applications and revisit transaction details through a replay facility.

UPI Tap & Pay on PoS

Another initiative, UPI Tap & Pay on PoS, allows customers to make contactless UPI payments by tapping an NFC-enabled smartphone on a compatible payment terminal. Transactions of up to Rs. 5,000 can be made through the facility, providing another option for quick payments.

Unified Ticketing Platform

BOI also displayed a Unified Ticketing Platform linked with an NPCI platform for interoperable QR-based ticketing. The system could support ticketing for metros, buses and other public transport services.

IMPS Bulk Payment

For businesses, the IMPS Bulk Payment facility is aimed at making large numbers of digital payments easier to manage through internet banking.

Exploring digital currency and cards

Central Bank Digital Currency

The bank also highlighted its work in emerging financial technologies. Its programmable Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) initiative allows digital tokens to be issued with specific conditions. These could include restrictions on where the money can be spent, geographical limits, expiry dates or particular purposes. Such technology could eventually provide organisations with more control over how digital funds are distributed and used.

Terra Mastercard World Credit Card

BOI also introduced the Terra Mastercard World Credit Card, a contactless international card offering travel, dining, entertainment and lifestyle benefits. The card has no issuance fee, while the annual fee for the primary card is Rs. 990.

Technology at the service of customers

Android-based Cash Recycler Machine

BOI’s Android-based Cash Recycler Machine, developed with Hitachi, demonstrates another practical use of technology. The machine offers several self-service functions, including cash transactions, UPI-based cardless withdrawals, Green PIN generation and instant debit card issuance. Such facilities can reduce dependence on traditional counter services and give customers more flexibility.

E-Kosha 2.0

The bank also presented E-Kosha 2.0, a voice-based conversational banking solution powered by ToneTag. Instead of navigating several screens, customers can use voice interactions to access banking information and services. This could be particularly useful for people who find conventional digital interfaces difficult to use.

Strengthening compliance and partnerships

ALPHA PLUS

Technology is also being used inside the bank. ALPHA PLUS is a compliance management platform designed to support areas such as regulatory inspections, correspondence tracking, compliance advisories, circular management, deviation reporting and penalty tracking. By bringing these activities into a technology-enabled system, the bank aims to make compliance processes more organised.

FinTech Connect Portal

BOI’s FinTech Connect Portal provides fintech companies with a structured channel to register and submit proposals for possible partnerships.

Unified AgentNxt Partner Integration

The bank also showcased Unified AgentNxt Partner Integration, which creates a common framework for working with approved technology service providers. Standardising partner onboarding, operations and reporting can help the bank expand services more efficiently.

A more personalised banking experience

Markytics

Customer engagement was another important focus. Markytics, an in-branch platform, is designed to help bank staff understand customer requirements and identify products or services that may be relevant to them. The aim is to make interactions more useful while supporting the delivery of suitable banking services.

BOI’s wider digital push reflects a broader transformation taking place across India’s banking sector. As banks adjust to the changing needs of customers and the quick pace of technological change, artificial intelligence, automation, digital payments and data-driven services are becoming more and more important. As a result, customers will enjoy faster transactions, more convenience, more self-service options and easier access to banking. Additionally, wider digital adoption can support financial inclusion, increase efficiency and strengthen the infrastructure that will underpin a growing digital economy for the country. BOI also participated in discussions on artificial intelligence, credit, compliance, cybersecurity, operational resilience and international fintech cooperation at GFF 2026. Its initiatives demonstrate how emerging technologies are being moved from the discussion stage into practical banking services, while the bank continues to focus on building a more accessible, secure and technology-ready financial ecosystem.
