India (Commonwealth) _Tata Motors, India’s largest manufacturer by revenue, increased its electric vehicle lineup on Wednesday by releasing the Punch EV SUV, with the goal of reaching 1 lakh units sold yearly by next year.

The Punch EV, priced between Rs 10.99 lakh and Rs 14.49 lakh at pan-India showrooms, competes with the MG Comet (Rs 7.98 lakh-Rs 9.98 lakh), Citroen eC3 (Rs 11.5 lakh-Rs 12.68 lakh), and Tata’s own Tiago EV, which costs Rs 8.69 lakh-12.04 lakh.”We are expanding the EV space in India by introducing new product launches and networks across the country,” Vivek Srivatsa, chief commercial officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, told FC during an interview.

He stated that the brand’s ambitious ambition to reach 1 lakh Tata EV sales by the end of the current fiscal year is on track, and we are getting close. Next year, we will break the 1 lakh EV sales milestone,” Srivatsa said, noting that in FY22-23, it sold 54,000 EVs and had a 73% market share.

He stated that Nexon EV, Tigor EV, Tiago EV, and Xpres-T EV currently account for 12 to 13 percent of Tata’s total passenger car sales. The Punch EV is Tata Motors’ second electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), and it will extend India’s expanding small SUV category by selling around 85,000 vehicles each month.

We’re entering into the booming small EV category, Srivatsa explained. The new Punch EV is available in five different models: Smart, Smart +, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered +. Customers may reserve the Punch EV via Tata’s EV-only dealership or Tata Motors’ official website for Rs 21,000. The deliveries start next month.

The Punch EV is Tata Motors’ first EV using a Gen 2 Pure EV platform, Acti.EV. According to the business, it is a safer architecture constructed with high-strength materials. The Tata Punch EV is available with two battery options: a 25kWh battery with about 315km of MIDC range and a 35kWh battery with approximately 421km of MIDc range. There are two charging options available: a 3.3kW wall box charger and a 7.2kW fast charger.

The Punch EV supports DC fast charging and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 56 minutes with a 50kW DC fast charger. Power is delivered to the front wheels via a 122hp, 190Nm motor in the Long-Range variations and an 81hp, 114Nm motor in the normal model. According to Tata Motors, the Long-Range models can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 9.5 seconds, and the EV has a 350mm water wading capacity.
