International community to prepare for future pandemics?

The coalition was introduced by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, ahead of the G7 leaders’ meeting held in February. It has also received backing from the government’s new Pandemic Preparedness Partnership, which was launched to save lives from future diseases and to prevent another global pandemic.

“The UK’s leadership in developing a vaccine that can be used around the world has been vital in the fight against Covid-19,” British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said. “We look forward to working with CEPI to speed up vaccine development, creating a global solution to ensure we’re better prepared for future pandemics.”

London will be hosting this year’s G7 Foreign and Development Ministers next week, and global health will be on the agenda of this gathering. The UK government has said that as the G7 president this year, the country continues to work with countries around the world in order to ensure that lessons have been learnt from the Coronavirus pandemic, which has crippled the lives and livelihoods of millions of people.
