is fake the new real ?

-

GLOBAL (COMMONWEALTH UNION) – As long as fashion has been around there has been the constant arguments about what is fake and what is real. With this came the whole thing about using real leather and furs. Of course, one has to understand that in the past wearing an animal skin that was a real skin was considered to be done only by the people who had that kind of money to spend.

Fashion until the recent years has always been a reason for there to be a gap between the haves and the have nots. The more designer you wore the more you had in your bank account which meant that you were the top tier in society. Which meant a lot and still means a lot to people who are socialites and who have been accustomed to that type of life style.

But what the fashion world did not see coming however were welfare movements that would make it difficult for the fashion industry to be butchering animals as when please to put out a fall line for the rich and famous.

The use of real fur in fashion can be traced back to the 11th century where royalty wore furs made of sables and minks but of course the people who were also not nobles or royalty used fur to keep themselves warm. It was not just for fashion or to show class but it was for adverse weather condition.

In present time however there is no need for that. In the present there are other ways to keep one from being harmed by adverse weather conditions than wearing fur.

Now we come to the fact that there are welfare groups that have attacked various high end fashion shows and even celebrities or people of high-end influence for wearing fur. The attacks are mostly protest where liquids similar to blood are thrown on the people and the fur ruining the fur product.

So, in today’s day and age have the designers given up on using real fur? Its simple if you want to keep you brand relevant to the younger generation then your brand has to change with the times and somewhat remodel itself to stay relevant.

We find that there are designers who have done ad campaigns and were torn apart by today’s society and high-end brands have had no choice but to somewhat conform to what the times are right now. The thing is fur clothing is still very much in demand but what is not in demand is the killing of animals.

So, the answer was very simple the designers had to find away to still have fur as fashion but without the blood on their hand or their clothes. This if how Faux Fur came into being.

Faux fur was a way to use synthetic fabrics and threads to make fake fur. This mean that although it wasn’t the real thing it still looked like the real thing and that kept both sides of the coin happy. The rich and the famous still got to keep their fur and the welfare groups got to keep the animals alive.

So now animal skins have been replaced by most designers and design houses. This is where the question is fake the new real comes to play. But one can see as they go through all of this and the recent shows where designers are actively stating that all the fur, they use are synthetic that the fashion industry is taking a turn to make fake more real.

This is a journey that has been in the books and what a time it is to be a part of!
