AFRICA ( Commonwealth Union) _  A green transport company, also known as an eco-friendly or sustainable transport company, is an organization that provides transportation services while prioritizing environmental sustainability. Such companies aim to reduce their carbon footprint and minimize the negative impact on the environment through various means that based in Nairobi have introduced a new charging station designed specifically for electric motorbikes, targeting “boda-boda” riders who are essential to the motorcycle taxi industry.

This charging station provides riders with a convenient and affordable solution for charging their batteries.

The charging process enables riders to charge their batteries from 20% to 80% within an hour, all at a reasonable cost. The objective is to help riders reduce their expenses for every 80 kilometers traveled.

According to Habib Cyril, the Roam Project Manager, the approximate cost for a fully charged battery is less than 150 Kenyan shillings (approximately one USD).

The “Roam Hub” initiative represents the latest effort to decarbonize Kenya’s transportation sector. Cyril strongly believes in the future of electric transportation. With the increasing fuel costs and economic challenges, e-mobility offers a more cost-effective solution that can alleviate the financial burden on low-income earners, particularly boda-boda riders.

Embracing e-mobility not only enables riders to earn more but also enhances their overall sustainability. Cyril highlights that the cost of charging an electric bike is significantly lower compared to using an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) bike, emphasizing that the future lies in electric mobility.

In other news, Kenya experienced a decrease in inflation last month, with the rate dropping to just under 8% after reaching 9.2% in March. This decline indicates a positive trend in the country’s economic stability, which may have implications for various sectors, including transportation.

With the introduction of the Roam Hub charging station and the decline in inflation, Kenya’s transportation sector is witnessing promising developments. These initiatives demonstrate the country’s commitment to sustainability, financial stability, and the potential for a greener future.
